Canadian CrossFit legend and fan favorite Brent Fikowski has announced his retirement from competitive CrossFit, marking the end of an incredible 12-year journey. Known for his grit, consistency, and analytical approach to the sport, Fikowski shared the news on Instagram, revealing that the Rogue Invitational will be his final appearance on the competition floor. For many fans, this announcement is bittersweet, as Fikowski’s presence has defined an era in the CrossFit community.
Brent Fikowski has confirmed that his final competition will be the 2024 Rogue Invitational, set to take place in Scotland from November 8-10—just days away. The Canadian powerhouse, often referred to as a “jewel” of the CrossFit world, made it clear this retirement is definitive. Fans hoping for a surprise comeback or a sneaky qualification to the CrossFit Semifinals should temper their expectations; Fikowski has no plans to compete in the CrossFit Open or any future events.
Speaking with Morning Chalk Up, Fikowski explained that stepping away from competition feels like the right move as he shifts his focus to other pursuits. Chief among them is his growing role within the Professional Fitness Athletes’ Association (PFAA), where he hopes to channel his passion and experience to support and elevate the sport he’s dedicated over a decade to. For Fikowski, it’s not about walking away—it’s about moving forward with purpose.
“For months, I have been splitting my time between being an athlete and PFAA initiatives, and I have decided to make the PFAA into the success I know it can be for the next group of athletes that come after me. This is how I need to spend all of my efforts.”
Although Brent Fikowski will no longer qualify to serve on the Professional Fitness Athletes’ Association (PFAA) board of directors—a role reserved exclusively for active competitors—his involvement with the organization is far from over. In fact, he’s gearing up to take on an even greater leadership role as the PFAA’s newly elected president.
Fikowski, chosen for the position by his fellow board members, plans to fully dedicate himself to the responsibilities and opportunities that come with this title. Known for his analytical mindset and unwavering commitment to the growth of the sport, he’s determined to use his experience as a competitor to advocate for athletes and advance CrossFit as a whole. For Fikowski, this marks the beginning of a new chapter in his career, one where he can leave a lasting impact off the competition floor.
Full Retirement Announcement from Brent Fikowski
I am retiring.
After 12 years competing in this sport, the 2024 Rogue Invitational will be my last competition. It’s been a tough decision knowing I’m still at my best and improving. But the excitement for a new set of challenges far outweighs any sadness I have saying goodbye to this chapter of my life. The level of focus I gave while competing I can now put into what is setting my soul on fire; improving this sport via @thepfaa to help the next generation have it even better than I did.
Don’t expect me to give anything less than 100% next week at the @rogueinvitational – I plan to go out with a bang. #FinishEmpty
